COTUIT – The harbormaster and fire departments from nearby towns converged on the Cotuit Cut in Nantucket Sound on Monday afternoon for nine people who had been thrown into the water from their capsized vessel.
The capsizing occurred at approximately 12:20 p.m. and the Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills Fire Department received a call around that time. The department sent its marine vessel, and notified the Hyannis Fire Department, the Barnstable harbormaster, thye Cotuit Fire Department, Barnstable police and the U.S. Coast Guard.
The Barnstable harbormaster’s vessel was the first municipal boat on the scene and found that the nine people had been picked up by a nearby private boat. They were brought to a nearby private dock at the end of Seaview Avenue in Osterville, evaluated by the COMM Fire Department and then released. A private salvage company will salvage the vessel.
