This is the third annual Bass In the Grass Fundraiser in honor of the Martha’s Vineyard Striped Bass & Bluefish Derby. This event not only adds an art exhibit to Edgartown but raises money for local artists, the Edgartown Board of Trade (who sponsors the event) and the Derby Scholarship Fund.

Bass in the Grass 2019

The last week of September make plans to visit the Mini Park in Edgartown (next to Edgartown Books) to see the Bass in the Grass. Also, at this time, the Bass in the Grass online auction begins. The auction continues through October 18th. You will have the chance to win one of these incredible pieces of Island-inspired art for your home.

WE LOVE MV: Artist Susie White

This year for Point B, we are lucky enough to feature the talent of Island artist Susie White for the Bass in the Grass we sponsored. Susie has a very distinctive style. Her work is a process, oriented in the landscape distilled down into her interpretation.

Susie and her husband Will have been coming to Martha’s Vineyard for over 30 years with family. Will’s family had a home in Edgartown. They made the move to the Island full time four years ago with their daughters Roxy and Lulu.

Susie always knew she wanted to call Martha’s Vineyard home, but she was also worried that moving here would “ruin the magic” for her. However, it has not, and she has found so much inspiration along its shores.

She was also uncertain of how her modern style would be received in the art community. Not surprisingly, people have really responded to her work. It is sleek yet complicated, fluid yet solid with colors that are reminiscent of the various colors found on the Island. You can find Susie’s work at the Field Gallery and on her website, Susiewhiteartist.com.Her pieces offer a range of pricing, from $500 to $5,0000.

WE LOVE MV: Red Stripe

The Bass she created, Red Stripe (named by her daughter Roxy), was inspired by the water, representing its fluid motion. Her talent of manipulation of her materials produces an incredible, interesting piece of art.

Her Bass is such a work of beauty. It is definitely a must to see in person. It is a bit of an optical illusion. You think one side is elevated but it is not. It is truly stunning and would be a wonderful piece of art for any collector. Added bonus, the Point B colors are in it!

Thank you Susie for Red Stripe. We can’t wait to see this amazing fish with the other Bass in the Grass. Also, it is sure to be an asset to the Bass in the Grass fundraiser.
