A third case of coronavirus in as many days and the fourth this week was reported Friday by the Island boards of health, while the only patient hospitalized with the illness was discharged.

In their daily demographic update, the six boards of health said the newest case is a female under 20 who was tested at the high school testing site, TestMV.

The latest case brings the Island’s total coronavirus case count to 105 people and the total number of cases confirmed by positive PCR tests to 81 since the pandemic began. Twenty-four other cases are considered probable because they were diagnosed by symptoms or the presence of viral antibodies.

With six new cases in the past two weeks, the Island’s case count is creeping up, but the the positive test rate, that is, the percentage of positive cases per tests completed, remains below 1 per cent. More than 20,000 people have been tested on Martha’s Vineyard since the pandemic began.

On Monday, a woman in her 40s received a positive test at TestMV, then on Wednesday Martha’s Vineyard Hospital reported a second case and said the patient had been admitted as an inpatient. A daily report by the Island boards of health Wednesday reported the patient was a male over 70. On Friday, the patient was discharged, a hospital spokesman said.

The third case of the week was identified Thursday as a male in his 20s who received a positive test at the hospital. The hospital is testing symptomatic patients and their close contacts for the virus; TestMV is focused on testing asymptomatic patients.

The Island boards of health reported Friday there are currently four active cases of the coronavirus being followed by health officials; 37 percent of those who have tested positive for the coronavirus are linked cases.

The age breakdown for cases on-Island is as follows: 12 under 20; 17 in their 20s; 14 in their 30s; five in their 40s; 17 in their 50s; 11 in their 60s; and five over the age of 70. Forty-eight cases are female, and 33 are male.

No Covid-related deaths have occurred on Martha’s Vineyard.
