The state Department of Public Health said in its Wednesday daily report that the Cape and Islands had no newly confirmed cases of coronavirus.

DPH officials also said in its weekly report that also came out on Wednesday that Sandwich is no longer in the state’s second highest risk category for COVID-19 transmission.

Overall, Massachusetts had 518 newly confirmed cases of coronavirus for a total of 138,038 cases since pandemic reporting began this winter.

Barnstable County on Cape Cod remained stable at 1,877 confirmed cases. Nantucket and Dukes counties also reported no new cases and have a cumulative coronavirus case count of 131 and 70 respectively.

The DPH said Wednesday that there are 16 new deaths of coronavirus patients in Massachusetts for a total of 9,647 confirmed and probable deaths. No new fatalities were reported on the Cape and Islands.

DPH officials said 178 residents of Barnstable County have died since pandemic reporting began.

Barnstable County officials, who count probable cases from antigen testing as well as coronavirus cases confirmed by molecular testing, said 2,093 people in Barnstable County have had either probable or confirmed cases of COVID-19 since pandemic reporting began this winter.

The state Department of Public Health said Wednesday that 499 people with coronavirus are hospitalized in Massachusetts, including 88 patients in intensive care units.

Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis has one patient with coronavirus, while Falmouth Hospital and Martha’s Vineyard Hospital each have two. One of the Falmouth Hospital COVID-19 patients is in the ICU.

The DPH said in its Wednesday weekly report on municipal cases of coronavirus that Sandwich has moved from the yellow zone, the second highest risk zone for coronavirus transmission, to the green zone.

The state divides municipalities into four color-coded risk categories: Gray, green, yellow and red.

Green zones had less than four new cases per 100,000 population over the last 14-day period.

Barnstable, Bourne and Harwich remain in the yellow zone, where the average daily rate is four to eight new cases of coronavirus per 100,000 population over the past 14 days.

Nantucket is the only town on the Cape and Islands to be in the highest risk red zone, with an incidence rate of more than eight cases per 100,000 population.

The number of new cases over the past 14 days, cumulative cases and incidence rates for each town are listed below.
