The Vineyard Gazette’s website, vineyardgazette.com, won a national EPPY award on Tuesday for excellence in digital media.
The site was named best newspaper site under 1 million unique monthly visitors. Finalists in the category included Las Vegas Weekly and Texas-based Peoples Newspapers. The Boston Globe was the winner among newspaper sites with more than 1 million unique visitors a month.
Updated seven days a week with breaking news, in-depth articles, community events, commentary and stunning photography, vineyardgazette.com also features the Time Machine, a selection of digitized stories and photos from the newspaper’s vast historic collection. Free to the public, the site attracts more than 2.2 million unique visitors annually.
“This is a tremendous honor, and a credit not only to the editors, reporters and photographers who keep our site fresh and compelling every day, but to our webmaster Graham Smith who is constantly making technical and design improvements to keep it robust,” said publisher Jane Seagrave.
Founded by Editor and Publisher Magazine in 1996, the annual EPPY awards have become the premier competition for media-affiliated websites. Winners in 38 categories were announced Tuesday in a virtual live ceremony.
The Vineyard Gazette has won top honors for digital strategy for the past two years in the New England Better Newspaper Competition.
