Alessandra Hagerty had what many would consider their dream job — she worked at The Knot, remotely from her home on Martha’s Vineyard. However, when the pandemic hit, the wedding industry changed, and Alessandra decided to do something she had dreamed about for years. We love the entrepreneurial spirit of Islanders, and that’s why it makes for a great addition to our WE LOVE MV series – WE LOVE MV: Chappy Chips, Martha’s Vineyard Chocolate Chip Cookies

WE LOVE MV: Chappy Chips, Martha’s Vineyard Chocolate Chip Cookies – From Dream To Reality

Alessandra spent the summer enjoying time with her two young children, and thinking about doing something she loves to do, baking. She decided she would create her own chocolate chip cookie business.

Sitting on the beach in Chappy with her sister and her children, Alessandra was talking about her cookie business. There was a lot to think about, for starters, a name. In that moment, on Chappy, she came up with Chappy Chips. They both loved it. It does have a nice ring to it!

On to another step — a logo. While at the Harbor View Hotel for a micro wedding, she looked across the way to the lighthouse and to the Chappy Beach Club. She had a vision for her brand’s logo, and it had a bit of Chappy on it. The logo is very “Vineyard” with a little whimsy to it. It is really cute and recognizable.

OK. Name and logo, and love of chocolate chip cookies, she began experimenting with chocolate chip cookie recipes, a lot of recipes, around 20 different ones. She wrote down detailed notes on each recipe she tried. Baking soda vs. baking powder, different butter temperatures, etc., and she finally found her perfect recipe.

You see, most people are really picky about their cookies. Some like them chewy and soft, some like them firm with a little crisp. Alessandra feels like she found the perfect balance.

Alessandra & Chappy Chips

OK. Recipe, name, logo, can this happen? Can she bring her love of Chocolate Chip cookies to the Island (and someday beyond its shores). The answer is yes! She applied to be a “Certified Home Baker” which would enable her to small-batch make and sell her cookies. I had no idea such a thing existed, but I am glad it does.

WE LOVE MV: Chappy Chips, Martha’s Vineyard Chocolate Chip Cookies – The Launch

In the beginning of February, Chappy Chips was launched online. Through social media and word of mouth, her first orders came in quickly. The first delivery was for Valentine’s Day weekend. You can now order Chappy Chips Sunday thru Wednesday for Saturday or Sunday contactless delivery.

Each week, the cookies are baked fresh, which is why it’s always nice to go local! Super fresh and because they are baked by Alessandra, they are made with a little love. Also, when possible, the eggs used are from the Hagerty’s own chickens. Once again, a little extra local love.

The sea salt is a delicious touch

These are really good chocolate chip cookies. They’re buttery and the sprinkle of sea salt really makes them extra good. I am definitely a sucker for a good cookie and Chappy Chips has me hooked.

Chappy Chips come in a couple different sizes. You can buy them individually wrapped, $4.00 per cookie (perfect for these times, sealed for extra safety), a bag of six cookies $18.00, or a dozen cookies for $30.00.

These cookies are a wonderful treat for family and friends or a great hostess gift. Also, imagine these as wedding favors! People love a good cookie. You could even have custom labels! Cookies make people happy and Chappy Chips is a welcome addition to the Martha’s Vineyard cookie scene.

As of now, Chappy Chips offers chocolate chip cookies, but there are plans for additional cookies. We wish you sweet success! To learn more about Chappy Chips or to order you very own, click here.

Whether you find a new cookie or a new fun activity, it’s important we support our local artists, entrepreneurs, and business owners. We Love MV is our ongoing series capturing the spirit of Martha’s Vineyard year-round.
