There was a hole in the Vineyard Haven dining scene last year without Beach Road Restaurant, but this year the doors are open and takeout is available. Being open for the season has made so many of people’s tastebuds dance for joy already, and makes for a great addition to our We Love MV series. WE LOVE MV: Beach Road Restaurant Opens for the Season.
There is something about Beach Road. It has a certain vibe that keeps you coming back. Remember the days of $1.00 oysters at the bar with cocktails? Somehow that always rolled into dinner a longer stay than anticipated.
While we have to wait for the oysters, we do not have to wait for food from Beach Road. I met with the Chef, Frank Williams, to talk about being open again and the new menu. Frank joined the Beach Road team in 2019. He has a long history in the restaurant world, growing up in the kitchen of Papas Pizza in Oak Bluffs.
He is heavily inspired by Mediterranean and Asian cuisine, and enjoys having fun with flavors. One of his favorite items on the menu is the Yakitori which are skewers with chicken. Chef Frank’s latest version consists of chicken and scallion meatballs with house-made pickled onions, served with unagi sauce. He likes to come up with different combinations for this tasty Japanese dish. He is definitely having fun in the kitchen and has a passion for the food he is making at Beach Road.
WE LOVE MV: Beach Road Restaurant In Vineyard Haven Opens For The Season – Sampling The New Spring Menu
There have been modifications made to the menu for Beach Road. The popular Vineyard Haven restaurant has been well known for its dining experience and food presentation, and of course taste. This season’s menu is full of delicious options. It is hard to choose what to order.
When getting Beach Road, I feel like apps are a must. We got the Yakitori which my husband really liked and the Tempura Shrimp with Haricots. I have to tell you that this shrimp dish was so good. This is one of my new favorites on the island. I love tempura and only seem to get it at the Ag Fair. So knowing I can have it whenever, is so great.
For dinner, we had the kitchen team’s favorite, always a good idea to order their favorite dish, the Lobster Linguini, local lobster, bright English peas, cherry tomatoes, corn, basil arugula pistou (similar to a pesto). What a beautiful, Spring pasta dish, bursting with color and flavor.
We also had the Berkshire Pork Chop, a farm fresh chop with a fresh, spring parsley tarragon pistou, and a grapefruit fennel escabeche, served on top of farro piccolo. My husband is a pork chop fan, and I was only able to get a small bite of this dish. He really enjoyed this one, and it too had a lot of great flavor.
Let’s not forget salad! I was able to catch Frank preparing my Spring Harvest Salad. This is the perfect spring salad — full of greens! There’s baby spinach, quinoa, feta, pine nuts, radish, sugar snap peas, and their house-made Green Goddess dressing — the sugar snap peas are such a great part of this salad. That extra snap is everything! This with the tempura would be my go-to meal any night of the week!
Just when I thought I couldn’t eat another thing, we had dessert. One of the best desserts on island is at Beach Road, the Coffee Pudding. It is every coffee fan’s dream pudding. So good. We also got the Leslie’s Chocolate Cake. Their baker, Leslie Hewson makes incredible desserts, and this was one that our kids loved. I guess it must have been good, because I was left with just an empty plate.
WE LOVE MV: Beach Road Restaurant In Vineyard Haven Opens For The Season – Dining Outdoors
Indoor dining is not yet available at Beach Road Restaurant. However, as of April 1st, there were will be first come first serve outside tables for enjoying your takeout. A brilliant idea! The view of the Lagoon from Beach Road is stunning. The late afternoon light is the golden hour. The view, savoring the last bit of light, and delicious food from Beach Road sounds like a perfect evening. To add to the experience, there are plans to offer cocktail/beverage service to the outside tables. I too miss this indoor space, but I am so happy to have the lights back on!
It is very exciting to have restaurants open for the season, and it is so nice to have Beach Road back. I look forward to my next visit. I think I will also get some of their famous sourdough bread.
