I felt like I would not be able to love anything but the iconic Right Fork Diner at the Katama Airport. However, I was mistaken, Katama Kitchen has taken me on a flight of fancy with what it has to offer.

What do I like the most? The evidence of love of all things planes is really charming. There are planes that people own etched into the tables. There is a nod to the airports of the places that have inspired the items on the menu, and of course, you still get to enjoy planes taking off and arriving at Katana Airfield. It continues to feel like a special Island experience.

The Katama Kitchen Team

Katama Kitchen At The Right Fork On Martha’s Vineyard – The Family Behind The New Restaurant

Evan Shai, one of the owners is a pilot. He and his wife Jessica fly as often as they can. A day trip to Nantucket, a quick jaunt to Hyannis, as long as he gets to the sky. Katama Kitchen is the perfect way to combine his love of planes and working with his family in the restaurant scene on Martha’s Vineyard. It’s a family affair here. Zared, Evan’s brother, has also recently gotten his pilot’s license as well.

Katama Kitchen At The Right Fork On Martha’s Vineyard – Breakfast And Lunch

As of now, Katama Kitchen is open for Breakfast and lunch, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. For breakfast, a.k.a “Pre-Flight,” you will find some classics like pancakes, benedicts, omelettes, and breakfast sandwiches along with items like the Tater Bowl. I love tater tots for breakfast (lunch and dinner). This dish has tots, cheese gravy, sausage, and chives – YUM!

We went for lunch, a.k.a “Cruising Altitude.” You will find a great selection of lunch sandwiches. There’s a cheesesteak, Cubano, Muffuletta, burgers, and more. There are also salads and soups too. It’s a perfect place to enjoy lunch with the menu they’ve created.

I ordered the Cubano which had ham, roasted pork, Swiss, pickles, mustard and Cuban bread. Inspired by MIA – Miami, Florida, Elevation: 9’ATIS 119.15. It was a delicious Cubano, and definitely one of my go to sandwiches. There is something about this combination that is just irresistible.

My friend Leah got the Vermonter, RUT- Rutland, VT, Elevation: 787′ AWOS 118.375. This sandwich was piled high with maple turkey, Vermont cheddar, green apple, honey and mustard on rye. She really enjoyed her sandwich as well. Vermont cheddar makes it better — right?

That Outdoor Dining Space Makes You Smile

We did get greens for the side, but could not resist an order of yummy tater tots to complete our meal. We both agreed that we have to come back for breakfast ASAP!

Katama Kitchen At The Right Fork On Martha’s Vineyard – Atmosphere

Katama Kitchen has a really great atmosphere. It feels relaxed and light and airy. Sitting outside on the deck is pretty magical, an experience all in its self. We watched Classic Aviator’s bi-planes taking off and landing, along with other planes while we ate and chatted. The sun was shining, a light breeze blowing. It was one of those perfect summer afternoons where time just slipped away.

Katama Kitchen At The Right Fork On Martha’s Vineyard – Dinner And Takeout

The Shai family does have plans to offer dinner in the summer, take-off date to be determined. Also, there are plans to have a full liquor license. An added bonus since I do enjoy a mimosa with breakfast while watching planes take off to new adventures. Don’t forget about takeout as an option, and dining inside is pretty awesome too with the new addition of booths (always a favorite).

We Love the Booths at Katama Kitchen

In addition to the great space, the staff is friendly, the new chef, Ben Herriman, is excited to be part of the Katama Kitchen team, and cook great food for guests. This new Shai family adventure is one to watch and celebrate being a part of (The Shai brothers also own Dos Mas in Oak Bluffs and Taco MV in Edgartown). There is a special joy when you work with those you love doing what you love.

“Let’s kick the tires and light the fires” — Famously uttered by Harry Connick Jr. in Independence Day, and try the new Katama Kitchen this summer.
