Do you remember the Wave Bar behind the Kelley House? It was a fun little spot, so close to downtown, but slightly hidden, with great cocktails. Well, we’ve waved bye to Wave Bar and have welcomed the Pelican Club. This Summer’s Chicest Edgartown Dining Spot Is The Pelican Club
The Pelican Club is one of my FAVORITE places to steal away this summer. The palms, the fun umbrellas, the chic striped chairs, the smell of the gardenia flowers, and the stunning cocktails, make you feel like worlds away, but yet you are right down the street from Memorial Wharf and the hustle and bustle of Main Street in Edgartown.
This Summer’s Chicest Edgartown Dining Spot Is The Pelican Club – The Experience
The Pelican Club has it all. A creative food menu for lunch, dinner, and late-night (open 12:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.), a creative cocktail list developed by Brett Nevin of MV Speakeasy, mocktail options too, chic decor, great music and an all-around fun vibe.
I want to dress up when I go to Pelican Club, which is saying a lot when you’re my age. When you are walking through the unmarked gate to this little slice of paradise in town, you will definitely get what I mean. It is just so fun to be at Pelican Club, but there is so much more to the fun here.
This Summer’s Chicest Edgartown Dining Spot Is The Pelican Club – The Menu
The menu is full of fresh flavor combinations. There is a little hint of California inspiration here. The magic behind the food is Jamie Summ Langley and Jesse Garcia, both from the Right Fork Diner. These two have come up with a delicious menu.
I had stopped by for lunch with a friend, and between the two of us, we had quite the sampling. We had Blue Ocean Roll (salmon, avocado, truffle oil, yellowtail, ponzu sauce and jalapeño), Tequila Fried Shrimp (6 tequila lemongrass marinated shrimp, mango kiwi salad), the Sautéed Tofu Lettuce Wraps (coconut rice, roasted mushrooms, water chestnuts butter lettuce, green onion dressing), and the Short Rib Sliders. Don’t laugh about the tofu. It was delicious – I could eat those lettuce cups every day, and those shrimp, so sweet and succulent. The Blue Ocean Roll was the best my friend has eaten on the Vineyard. Needless to say, we can’t wait to come back.
This Summer’s Chicest Edgartown Dining Spot Is The Pelican Club – Cocktails
Drinks at the Pelican Club are the creative creations of Brett Nevin from MV Speakeasy, Brett knows his cocktails, and I was sad to only have one (a work lunch after all). However, the Rose Mary Rose was not only absolutely beautiful, it was summer in a glass or should I say chalice.
My friend opted for one of the frozen drinks, Pure Vida, which has vodka, elderflower liqueur, cucumber, mint, and lime. She really enjoyed hers. It looked lovely and dare I say a bit healthy. However, the Rose Mary Rose that I had will definitely be in my hands again soon. Cheers, Brett Nevin – it is my new favorite summer drink. The Rose Mary Rose has rosemary-infused Grey Goose Vodka, fresh grapefruit juice, sparkling rose, and rosemary. Yes it is as delightful as it sounds.
The Pelican Brief
The Kelley was purchased by new owners last Fall, Blue Flag Partners, LLC. “Blue Flag is a collection of Investment, Real Estate, Construction, and Design experts on a mission to deliver profound experiences through physical spaces.” Blue Flag owns a number of properties in New England including Falmouth, Nantucket, and the Vineyard. With each property, the company really works to give guests a sense of place.
With the Pelican Club, Jamie and MarcAnthony Crimi, from Life House, a company that Blue Flag works with, worked to create a space that evoked the feeling of being on vacation, being somewhere fun, special, and this has definitely been achieved at Pelican Club. For me, I feel like I stepped into an exclusive little club in Palm Beach. It’s just so fun!
Blue Flag plans to do an extensive renovation to the Kelley House property. Don’t worry Newes fans, the Newes will remain the same. The goal is to offer more to guests, a four-star hotel experience while creating an esthetic that is true to historic Edgartown. So, stay tuned for all the exciting changes starting this Fall.
In the meantime, you can visit Pelican Club into the Fall. There will be outdoor space heaters and seasonal beverages and menu items. Can’t you imagine enjoying a chilly evening, wearing your favorite cashmere sweater and sipping a bold cabernet under the stars? For more details, follow Pelican Club on Instagram.
