I have to admit that I am somewhat embarrassed to say that the first farmer’s market of the 2021 season happened in the fall for me. However, I do have to admit that I enjoy the market this time of year. It is cooler, quieter, and I can connect more with my favorite vendors. So, Wednesdays At The Fall West Tisbury Farmer’s Market On Martha’s Vineyard is a great add to your Vineyard list of must-dos.
What drew me to the fall market? Well, Nina of Stoney Hill Pizza was hosting a sort of pop-up with Macon Pastries, aka Georgia Macon, the breakfast pastry genius from Atria Cafe. One look at a picture of Georgia’s ham and cheese croissants, and I knew where I was heading first thing in the morning for breakfast.
Wednesdays At The Fall West Tisbury Farmer’s Market On Martha’s Vineyard – What Vendors Are Present
What I did not anticipate was all the other great moments I would have on this West Tisbury field. Before heading to the lines of Stoney Hill Pizza, I stopped at a number of the other vendors. Since there were no crowds, I was able to enjoy each space.
From Martha’s Rose Scallops, to MV Smokehouse, to the Good Farm chicken and numerous farms, there are so many things to inspire you for dinner or just to stock your fridge with. Late summer/early fall crops are so colorful. The tomatoes were so bright and beautiful as were the greens and peppers.
I stopped by MVM – MV Mycological Mushrooms not just to get mushrooms (their shiitake are the best), but to get a bouquet of dahlias. Olivia grows the flowers and veggies on the farm, while the guys grow the mushrooms. I have been wanting dahlias for the last couple of weeks and Olivia’s were the best at the market today.
What’s great is that she will custom make you a bouquet. I was easy, just dahlias, all the dahlias! There were various vendors where you could get flower bouquets that were just as lovely and fall inspired. It is so wonderful to be surrounded by so much natural beauty and color!
Next up, I stopped at Island Bee Company. I have been coveting one of their beeswax emollient bars since I saw one in my friend’s bathroom. I had asked about them and my friend said these bars are incredible for dry skin – especially heals and hands. Big decision — lavender, lemon or orange for the scent. I went with lavender. Every time I smell lavender, I think of the lavender fields on Provence, and it makes me happy. Let’s see how this bar works!
Then it was on to Little Rock Farm to say hi to my friend Nick. His family does such great things in their kitchen. I always like to see what’s new and it’s nice to catch up for a bit. Nick and I worked together at Offshore Ale years ago.
Wednesdays At The Fall West Tisbury Farmer’s Market On Martha’s Vineyard – Stoney Hill Pizza
Each farm and purveyor had its own eye-catching items, but I was on a mission. I was yet to eat breakfast so I made my way to Stoney Hill Pizza. Here, you can order Nina’s incredible pizzas which have an almost cult following.
Lots of people were getting their pizzas to enjoy later in the day. Next time I have to get one to go as well, but today it was all about Macon Pastries. Sadly I was too late for the ham and cheese croissants, but Georgia recommend I get the Pizza Knots – with fresh marinara, mozzarella, and pepperoni. I grabbed one of those and one of her sticky buns.
Back to my car, I went with my bounty. And while there are definitely less vendors at the market on Wednesday, I found everything and then some of what I needed. What a glorious way to start my day, and added bonus is that both of the pastries I got were delicious. I think the sticky bun might have been the best I have ever had. Look for more fun pop-ups and collaborations happening between vendors this season.
The West Tisbury Farmer’s Market is every Wednesday and Saturday at the Ag Hall through October 31st.
