The freight ferry Katama was called into service from Fairhaven Tuesday after the Governor went out with unspecified mechancial problems.
The changeover caused two cancellations while the Katama made her way to Woods Hole, Steamship Authority spokesman Sean Driscoll told the Gazette by phone.
The 2:50 p.m. trip from Woods Hole and 4:05 p.m. trip from Vineyard Haven were canceled.
The Governor had stalled while docking in Woods Hole Tuesday morning, Mr. Driscoll said.
The Katama was slated to fill in for the two canceled trips, but did not arrive from Fairhaven in time, Mr. Driscoll said.
“It’s en route from Fairhaven as we speak,” he said late Tuesday afternoon. “We anticipate . . . hopefully it will be in place for the 5:20 p.m. departure from Woods Hole.”
Tuesday was also opening day for the Oak Bluffs summer terminal for the 2022 season. Mr. Driscoll said all went smoothly.
“It’s always exciting when Oak Bluffs opens up,” he said. “It was a good day for it. Nice clear, sunny day.”
