Yes, it is true! There is now an Indian food takeaway option on the Island, Bombay Indian Cuisine. Located at the Kitchen Porch at the Airport Park, Bombay offers authentic inspired Indian Food. You no longer have to go to Falmouth or Hyannis to have great Indian food!
Bombay MV is run by a dynamic team – Austin Grandi, back of house and Sydney Scannell, front of house, Bombay MV will really surprise you with its authentic flavors. Austin’s stepmother is Indian and he has grown up on the MV enjoying the exotic flavors of the dishes his mom made. He grew up making curries and loved spending time in the kitchen cooking – all the spices and flavors combinations were so fun to work with.
He had been thinking about sharing his cooking with others and looked for a restaurant of his own on the Vineyard. However, things did not work out at the last minute, but with a little Vineyard magic, Jan at the Kitchen Porch had space for him, and Bombay Indian Cuisine was a reality
Off to India from Martha’s Vineyard
Austin headed to India for three weeks before opening Bombay MV. He was able to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for the local cuisine. There, he had the opportunity to work in the kitchens of some restaurants there. He learned so much while there, and also learned about more the culture. As a tall, light skin man, he garnered a lot of attention while there. It was both humbling and life changing. He realized that a lot of Indian food he has had in the States is Americanized. He wanted to bring authentic Indian food to Martha’s Vineyard
He was inspired in a whole new way. He is working to bring the best Indian food to Martha’s Vineyard. Using the best ingredients, authentic ingredients, and making as much as possible in house, like things are made in India. In the kitchen, he lets his passion for Indian food shine.
Bombay MV
Austin and Sydney are the team that make the all the magic happen. Sydney, who also works at the YMCA of Martha’s Vineyard, set up the website, on-line ordering, is the face you see when picking up orders and more. Together, they do their best to keep up with the demand. What was supposed to be a slow start immediately became a success. Word of mouth spread quickly on the Island, and they were immediately busy and seeing repeat customers.
At Bombay MV, they go the extra mile for their food they make. Specialty ingredients are imported from India, and local ingredients are used when possible. There is no MSG and all the sauces are housemade. There is so much prep that goes into each dish – it truly is a labor of love. Even the Naan is made to order! All these really good, authentic ingredients and Austin’s passion for this food make for truly delicious food.
Let’s talk food! Austin’s favorite dish is the Chicken Biryani. This is THE dish in India. It’s all about who has the best Biryani in India. Of course you can find this dish available at Bombay MV. And while that is the most popular dish in India, here in America it is Mumbai Chicken “Tikka” Masala. This is the dish of Austin’s is the most popular too.
When I stopped by, Austin made me Mumbai Chicken “Tikka” Masala and Saag Paneer. The Tikka Masala was absolutely delicious and had a little heat to it. You can get things spicy if you like. For me, the Saag Paneer was the show stopper. Sang Paneer is Paneer cheese cooked with spinach based curry. The texture of the cheese and the curry were so good.
Austin recommended using the Naan to scoop up the food. You just tear, the Naan with your hand and scoop up the goodness. The garlic Naan and the Sang Paneer were so good together. I will definitely be getting this again.
Portions are generous. Austin hopes people will order a bunch of things and enjoy the meal family style. There are so many things to try on the Bombay MV menu. Don’t forget dessert! I had the Rose Pistachio Pudding, Sweet rice pudding with pistachio and rose petals. It was so beautiful and not too sweet, which I prefer.
You can get Lassis, Onion Samosas, salads, sides and more at Bombay MV. Sydney said the Lemon Ginger Lobster Rangoons are outstanding. I will definitely be getting these next time I visit Bombay MV.
Bombay MV is open for pre-order takeaway Wednesday – Sunday for PICK UP ORDERS ONLY. Remember, everything is made fresh and ingredients are limited. It’s so easy! To pre-order, simply click here. Head to Kitchen Porch at the Airport and look for the screen door. It’s such a great location – now need to worry about parking. Chances are it will be Sydney there meeting you with your Bombay MV. The just repeat the process to try something new next time.
Author’s Note: It is so wonderful to see Austin following his passion for cooking Indian food. Before this, he was the captain on a boat, and now he’s doing what he really loves, with his girlfriend no less. The Vineyard is pretty magical.
