The Martha’s Vineyard Bank Charitable Foundation awarded $600,000 in grants to three Martha’s Vineyard nonprofits at its annual corporator meeting, and established a $250,000 scholarship fund, the organization announced.
Island Housing Trust received a grant of $250,000 for workforce housing projects, specifically for three affordable housing projects in Aquinnah, Edgartown and Oak Bluffs.
Island Healthcare Inc. also earned a grant of $250,000 to help fund a new dental center aimed at giving adults and children another option to access dental care.
A grant for $100,0000 went to FUEL, the Foundation for Underway Experiential Learning, to support the construction of a new ship to replace the Shenandoah, and continue its mission of providing educational trips at sea to Island students.
In addition to the grants, the foundation announced the creation of the Philip J. Norton Scholarship Fund in the amount of $250,000 to honor the lifetime contributions of Mr. Norton, the Edgartown attorney and longtime town moderator who died on Nov. 6.
