The Trustees of Reservations announced Friday that oversand vehicle (OSV) permits will go on sale May 14.

The announcement came after a long road of regulatory challenges for the statewide land conservancy. Island residents pushed back against the organization for its management of oversand vehicles on Chappaquiddick properties. OSV stickers typically go on sale in April for the coming summer season.

This year, sticker permits will only allow access to the Trustees’ Cape Poge and Leland Beach properties, with pedestrian access only north of the Jetties.

“We anticipate OSV Permit sales to begin online May 14 (pending no appeal of our Orders of Conditions),” the organization wrote on social media. “Much has changed, we’re here to help but your beloved beaches are ready for you!”

Permits may be purchased online but picked up in-person at the Trustees’ regional office in Vineyard Haven. Starting May 27, visitors must pick up their permits directly at the Mytoi gatehouse in Chappaquiddick.

The town of Edgartown, which recently took over management of Norton Point Beach from the Trustees, has yet to announce when OSV permits for the property will go on sale. On April 28, the town wrote on its website that sales would be delayed until the parks department receives full statewide approval.
