Well, nothing warmed the cockles of my heart more than seeing the last school bus go by. The children ran off the bus, screaming with glee. Music was blasting, I could not really hear it but I was hoping it was ”School’s Out for Summer! “School’s Out Forever!”

Island parents, keep a lookout for summer camps and events to keep them occupied. Caution on the roads.

If you see a drunken squirrel crossing your yard, no doubt it came from my house. My housemate went out this morning and saw a squirrel on my picnic table drinking from a half-cup of red wine I left out there uncovered. My bad.

Our Martha’s Vineyard Museum marches on. The new exhibit on display through Oct. 15 is Wooden Boat Building. The exhibit is stretched over the whole campus from the Linneman Pavilion to Doherty Hall. The work takes in the early boat building of the Wampanoags through today’s wooden creations. I love that museum. I’ll see you there.

Harborfest went on without a hitch on Sunday, after the weather cancellation on Saturday. Among the many delights was the music put on by Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish.

The Velonauts are coming! The Velonauts are coming! My buddy David Whitmon has his Velonaut friends on-Island Friday, Saturday and Sunday this weekend. I hope they have good weather.

Janet Messineo-Israel reports that she attended Jorma Kaukonen’s two-hour-long, non-stop concert played on Friday night at The Loft in Oak Bluffs. Amazing, she says.

Anne D. Grandin’s newest work is up at the Louisa Gould Gallery in Vineyard Haven.

While you are visiting the galleries, please stop at the photography gallery of my good friend Michael Johnson. It is located at 34A Main street in Vineyard Haven, just behind Claudia’s jewelry store and across from Nat’s Nook. From now until Indigenous People’s Day in October he is open seven days a week. He is delightful and so is his work.

The Black Dog Tall Ships are scheduling three-hour-long boat trips. The best vacation I ever had was when my son was sailing with them for one week when he was in sixth grade.

A great lineup of island musicians will be playing at the Tabernacle at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 30. The fundraiser benefits Island Elderly Housing. Performers include Lexi Roth, John Forte, Chadwick Stokes,Jemima James, Willy Mason, Ben Taylor, Kate Taylor, Rosie Guerin and Isaac Taylor and Geraldine Brooks as the special guest. Tickets are going fast. They’re available at eventbrite.com.

If you cannot attend the concert but wish to buy a ticket to donate it to a senior resident of Island housing email Jemima James at jemimajames@gmail.com. I’ll see you there.

The birthday bandwagon pulled along Caitlyn Parkhurst on June 19. Many happy returns.
