On Saturday, August 5, The Trustees of Reservations and the Martha’s Vineyard Book Festival will host a bird walk led by Christian Cooper, author of Better Living Through Birding: Notes from a Black Man in the Natural World, and lead for the National Geographic series Extraordinary Birder with Christian Cooper. The event will be held at Long Point Wildlife Refuge in West Tisbury. Birders will leave from its winter entrance at 8:30 a.m.
Mr. Cooper is also known as the Central Park birder whose May 2020 encounter with a dog walker led to an escalation of racial tensions. He will be on-Island in early August to speak and share his memoir at the Martha’s Vineyard Book Festival, which takes place August 4 through 6.
Tickets for the bird walk cost $32 for Trustees members and $40 for non-members, a fee that includes a copy of Mr. Cooper’s book. Visit tickets.thetrustees.org to purchase tickets.
