The Vineyard Haven Public Library Building Fund, Inc. has announced a $150,000 challenge grant for the library’s capital campaign. A matching grant made possible by an Island family will add $1,000 in funds for every $3,000 donated to the campaign now.
Over the past decade, the library has experienced more than 300 percent growth in attendance at adult programs and regularly hosts more than 40 events each month. Renovations and a new addition will enhance the library through environmental upgrades for sustainability, additional storage, flexible meeting facilities, a renovated and expanded reading room and a new interpretation of the Margaret Webster Shakespeare Garden.
To date, the library’s building fund has raised more than $1.4 million of its $2 million fundraising goal. At the most recent Tisbury town meeting, voters approved $1 million dollars in funding for the building project. With funding in place, the library will be able to begin construction in 2024.
