After more than 37 years with the town of Tisbury, accountant Suzanne Kennedy stepped down from her job last week.
“Suzanne was just an extraordinary town accountant and it was a tremendous loss to us, but she absolutely deserves retirement,” Tisbury treasurer Jon Snyder told the Gazette.
“We are all saddened by the loss but know that it is going to happen with all of us at some point and always want more time and want to defer the inevitable,” town administrator Jay Grande wrote in a statement.
Two assistant accountants are handling Ms. Kennedy’s workload while the town seeks her replacement, Mr. Snyder said. He expected the town would start recruiting at least an interim accountant initially.
Financial positions have proven tough to fill on the Island as of late. The county’s treasurer Judy Soules this week also announced she planned to step down in March, sending the county commission scrambling for a replacement.
“Across Massachusetts, town accountants are very hard to find and especially exceptionally good ones,” Mr. Snyder said.
