Falmouth Academy 36th annual science fair took place on Feb. 15 with fifty-five prizes, scholarships and honorable mentions awarded to upper and middle-school students.
Seventy-five visiting judges evaluated the 124 projects with several Vineyard students earning awards, including fourth place finishes in the upper school category for Cian Davis of Chilmark (The Effect of Distance Traveled by Swell on Wave Height and Period), Maverick Pil of Vineyard Haven (Comparing Morphology to Sex in Juvenile Limulus polyphemus), and Amelia Russell-Schaeffer of Edgartown (Do Essential Oils Repel Amblyomma americanum Larvae as Effectively as Deet?).
Ms. Russell-Schaeffer’s project also won the Hutker Architects Excellence in Graphic Presentation award.
In the middle school division Emme Carroll of Chilmark won an honorable mention for her project entitled Domestic Chicken Bowl Color Preference.
