On Tuesday, March 11, the Vineyard Gazette will host a talk in the newsroom featuring leaders in the cinematic community on the Island.
Brian Ditchfield, executive director of Circuit Arts, Richard Paradise, executive director of the Martha’s Vineyard Film Society, and Anne Evasick, manager of Edgartown Cinemas, will all be on hand to discuss the current state of the movie industry, and events planned for on-Island.
Circuit Arts presents its annual March film festival on March 26 to 30. This is the 25th anniversary of the festival and the talk will include stories about that journey, along with how the current festival is shaping up.
Ms. Evasick has been a part of the Island movie scene dating back to 1979 when she worked for the Island Theatre in Oak Bluffs. In 1986, she began working at the video store Island Entertainment, and eventually purchased the beloved Island institution in 2008.
Richard Paradise began screening independent and foreign films on the Island in 1999, as the founder and executive director of the Martha’s Vineyard Film Society. For years, he was a veritable traveling cinema circus, showing films at the Grange Hall, the Capawock Theatre or the Katharine Cornell Theatre. In 2012, he opened the Martha’s Vineyard Film Center, a state of the art movie theatre in the Tisbury Marketplace.
Combined, the three individuals are responsible for nearly every movie that comes to the Vineyard, enriching Islanders lives with stories from around the world and homegrown.
The event is from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on March 11.
There is no charge but an RSVP is requested. Register in advance at rsvp@vineyardgazette.com.
