Blue Man Group, the nonverbal multimedia trio of paint-splattering, comedic, bald blue performers, will end its run in Boston on July 6, more than three decades after it began.

The troupe debuted at Astor Place in New York City in 1991 and at Boston’s Charles Playhouse four years later in 1995, reaching more than 4.5 million people in the city.

“It has been a privilege to be a part of Blue Man Group Boston, a camaraderie that has been celebrated by the Boston community since we first opened in 1995 at the Charles Playhouse,” Jonathan Screnci, General Manager, said in a release on Tuesday.

“Blue Man Group is truly one-of-a-kind – an iconic and globally celebrated production  thanks to the incredible dedication of its cast, crew, front of house, management, and creative team. Their tireless work is what brought the show to life night after night, captivating millions. We extend our deepest gratitude to them all,” he added.

The trio is known for its creative and immersive shows that bring together art, music, and comedy to explore “the universal story of what it means to be human.”

The end of the Boston production was announced in a news release on Tuesday; the release did not say why the show was closing.

Blue Man Group productions closed in Chicago in January and in New York City last fall, but will continue to operate in Las Vegas and Orlando, as well as internationally.

Across its three-decade tenure, Blue Man Group has reached more than 50 million people worldwide and is set to embark on a yet-to-be announced North American tour.
