Stephen & Susan Bowen have done it again! First Waterside Market, then La Soffitta, and now Fish MV. Located between its sister restaurants on Main Street in Vineyard Haven, Fish MV is unlike any other restaurant on Martha’s Vineyard. Fish MV Outdoor Dining On Martha’s Vineyard In Vineyard Haven
Fish MV Outdoor Dining On Martha’s Vineyard In Vineyard Haven – A Grand New Dining Deck
The expansive deck is the first thing that grabs your attention. Once you are on it, there is a view of the harbor and you can watch the ferry come and go. The space is open and light and airy. You feel like you are on vacation in what I would call a Baja chic-inspired casual taqueria.
I am serious about the vacation part. I sat on the couch with my husband for date night, looking out to the water, reggae playing, cocktail in hand, under the canopy, with a menu loaded with seafood options. I felt worlds away, yet I was right there on Main Street. The vibe is so fresh and fun at Fish.
Fish MV Outdoor Dining On Martha’s Vineyard In Vineyard Haven – The Dining Experience
You can eat at Fish or do takeaway. In addition to the seating outside, there are a couple of tables inside for you to consider as an option. Fish MV runs a little differently from other restaurants. How it works, is that you order your food inside, and then you have table service, your order is brought to you.
You can order additional beverages from your server as well, so you don’t need to go back in. However, when inside, be sure to sneak a peek of all the great options they have for their raw bar — Island oysters, Stone Crab, Cherry Stones, and more. Added bonus, there is a pirate chest filled with toys for the kiddos to take (no charge). Once again — like being on vacation.
The menu features mostly seafood options which is awesome, because there are not a lot of places that focus on seafood. You will find ceviche with local white fish or shrimp, delicious bites like calamari or fried oysters, 6 taco varieties to choose from (which can also be served as a bowl), fish sliders, lobster rolls, and of course the Sushiritto – a sushi burrito! Yes – somewhat mind-blowing right!
No dessert options as of yet, but there are rumors of the Choco Taco coming on the menu — if you know, you know. Luckily, LaSoffitta is right next door if you need something sweet.
We started with fried oysters and ceviche – both two of my favorites. The fish was so fresh in the ceviche and the batter was really good on the fried oysters! We definitely relaxed into that fabulous couch, and I savored every moment, while enjoying a scrumptious watermelon margarita.
Then on to dinner. My husband had to try the Sushiritto, he was too intrigued not to. He said it was so interesting and tasty — a true cross between a burrito and sushi roll. The Sushiritto has diced sushi tuna, avocado, cucumber, scallions, mango salsa, and sticky rice in a soy paper wrap with ponzu sauce and yum yum sauce.
For me, I went with the Baja Fish tacos. I am a sucker for fish tacos! These feature crispy tempura-fried local fish and fresh mango salsa and slaw. I think these were the star of the meal. I cannot wait to get these again!
Fish MV Outdoor Dining On Martha’s Vineyard In Vineyard Haven – Cocktails, Wine & Beer
You will find a great selection of beer and wine but the cocktail list is pretty fabulous. Here are a couple of the drinks featured at Fish — Smoky Lime Mezcal Paloma, housemade Pina Coladas, the Pink Bikini, and of course their margaritas. I had the Watermelon Margarita which is their specialty drink. It has Cabrito tequila, a splash of Cointreau, and is served on the rocks with a slice of watermelon. Summer in a glass my friends!
I have to say it again, sitting there with a nice glass of Albarino white wine after dinner on date night, on the deck, ferries coming and going, laughter all around, music playing, full from good food, the sky turning to night, I felt so relaxed and happy. Fish MV – I will be back again and again! After all, who doesn’t like the idea of a little getaway so close to home.
Fish MV Outdoor Dining On Martha’s Vineyard In Vineyard Haven – The Back Story
Susan had the concept for Fish. She really wanted to make something special, something different for the dining scene on the Island — a seafood-focused beach bar. Yes, you are on Main Street, but you can still get that beach bar vibe. And create that vibe they did!
The menu was a collaboration between Susan, Stephen, Chef Bill Hart (Waterside), and Chef Jesse Martin from La Soffitta. Together, they were able to create a menu that features great seafood options and more. Bill and Jesse co-manage the kitchen and work together to create fresh, inspired dishes. Stephen also wanted me to mention his contractor, Andrew Kahl, from AMK Concepts, who helped make this dream a reality with his team.
The menu also has a chance to evolve as the season goes on and next year as well. Perhaps a seafood tower? French fries? The world is their oyster! Congratulations to you all on the opening of Fish! It is a welcomed addition to the Island’s food scene!
Fish is currently open Monday – Saturday, 11:30 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. for lunch and dinner, dine-in and takeaway. You can even order online. Click here to check out the menu or to order today.
