An effort begun before the pandemic to update Edgartown’s 30-year-old master plan is now underway, with a 19-member committee starting to meet twice a month to develop goals and policies to guide the town in its future development.

Created under state law by the town planning board, the Edgartown master plan steering committee is required to address eight specific areas — housing, economic development, natural and cultural resources, open space and recreation, services and facilities, transportation networks, and implementation. However, the committee has opted to expand its brief to include diversity and inclusion, according to a news release.

Since April, the committee has been working to secure funding, hire a consultant and create a scope of work, the news release said. The committee is chaired by Juliet Mullinare.

The last Edgartown master plan was adopted by a vote of town meeting in April 1990 and was intended to be a 10-year planning document.

The committee will be meet by Zoom on the first and third Mondays of the month starting October 19. The public is welcome to attend.

Meeting agendas with zoom links are available on the town website at www.Edgartown-MA.us.
