Last Winter, Chef Austin Racine and restaurant profession Maura Martin hosted a series of Pop-Ups at the Portuguese American Club (fondly referred to as the PA Club) in Oak Bluffs. The two who also happen to be good friends, created a memorable experience for foodies. These Pop-Ups were so well received, that the PA Club asked them to become a more permanent addition.
Maura and Austin couldn’t believe how much people enjoyed their food, how happy they were to have somewhere to go for really good food each week. It gave people something to look forward to. Why not make it permanent? They have worked together for years and have opened a bunch of restaurants together for others. In June, they opened Mo’s Lunch, and the level of support was overwhelming. It has become a mainstay for lunch and dinner for so many.
Though a lot of people go to Mo’s for takeaway, you can also enjoy your food there. Mo’s has a separate dining space but you also have the option to eat over at the bar or outside at the PA Club where you can also enjoy a beverage with your meal. Eating at the PA Club can be a lot of fun!
Food at Mo’s Lunch
Mo’s is much more than lunch. It’s also the stop for a delicious snack (the onion rings are so good) and dinner. Austin Racine has been the chef in some amazing kitchens on the Island – Cafe Moxie, Beach Road, State Road and Nomans, and Maura’s been in the restaurant business for a long time. All that experience rolled into one restaurant can only mean good things.
The menu is simple – great ingredients, great food, made with love. Maura (Mo) and Austin have worked together, open restaurants together and are good friends. Now they have their own place, and they could not be happier. They are able to have the kind of kitchen and team that they love. Create food and make folks happy.
There are salads and seriously delicious sandwiches, all of which you can order on-line and modify to your liking. Some of the most popular are the Italian – thin sliced salami, capicola, mortadella and provolone with hot pepper relish, lettuce, vinegar and herbs on their house made sesame seed hoagie roll.
Another popular menu item is the Leo Burger (named after Maura’s son). It’s a skinny patty, cheese, shredded lettuce, pickles and special sauce on a soft bun. People come back again and again for this burger.
I got the Cauliflower Melt when I stopped by. It has roasted spiced cauliflower, braised greens, cheddar cheese and garlic aïoli pressed and grilled on their house made sourdough bread. This was a delicious vegetarian sandwich, definitely big enough for two meals. The bread is so good and fresh.
I also got the onion rings. I love good a onion ring, and as you image, Mo’s delivers. The batter makes the difference, and they serve theirs with ranch. The rings are on the sides menu. They also have polenta fries, house made Giardiniera (my fav), and more.
The “snack” selections are really quite interesting. You can get Tinned Fish – a nice plate of their tinned fish of the day (ask what it is today), housemade. fresh bread, pickles and spreads. You can also their Country Pâté – a plate of house made country pork pâté served with their bread, pickles and spreads. Austin makes all the pâtés! There are so many house made ingredients at Mo’s! It’s actually refreshing in this world of pre-made foods.
Have a sweet tooth? Stop by Mo’s. They have Korilee Connelly as their baker. She was the beloved baker at Morning Glory Farm for a long time. Her desserts are so delicious. The Lemon Meringue Pie at Mo’s when I was there looked like it was from a cooking magazine. The dessert selection is really quite something at Mo’s.
In addition to great food at Mo’s, you can also get your event catered by Mo’s. If needed, there’s even a space at the PA Club.
Having Mo’s is a great addition to the MV food scene. There is parking, space to enjoy your food, and you’re helping two folks and their dedicated team make their dream of having their own restaurant a reality. The PA Club is a great partner to have there. Sometimes you just want a burger and a beer. Easy to make happen here! Also, the PA Club can be quite the fun scene. You don’t have to be a member to go when you go to Mo’s. Click here to learn more and see the menu.
Currently, Mo’s is open Tuesday – Saturday, 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., closed Sundays and Mondays. *Keep an eye out for Mo’s themed dinners. People really enjoy having food inspired from out parts of the world.
