The full moon of November, called the Beaver Moon, will rise on Friday, Nov. 19, joined by a partial lunar eclipse.

The earth’s shadow will fall across 98 per cent of the Beaver Moon, according to the Farmer’s Almanac. The shadow of a partial lunar eclipse gives the moon a reddish color, so it’s also known as a blood moon.

On Tuesday, Nov. 23, the West Tisbury third grade will visit the library to meet the children’s librarian, Mikaela Lawson, and to get their first library cards if they don’t have them already. This annual pilgrimage began about 10 years ago, when Beth Kramer sought to increase the role of the public library in the schools.

On Nov. 22, Matt Merry of Lambert’s Cove celebrates his 50th birthday. If you see him out and about, be sure and wish him another half century.

The good people at Test MV at the Ag Hall are looking for donations that will cozy up their long, cold days there: an electric kettle, tea bags, hand- and foot-warmers, space heaters, an electric blanket, a whiteboard and markers, and rain gear. These items can be dropped off at their tent.

Shop local for the holidays at Heather Gardens, where a bunch of local artisans have wares for sale throughout the holiday season. There are also still plenty of beautiful plants and flowers on offer, of course. They are open 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. through Christmas Eve.

Another great place to find unique gifts is the Vineyard Artisans Festival, indoors at the Ag Hall on Nov. 26 and 27. This is the 24th annual festival and you can walk out with purchases in hand, untroubled by worries about shipping containers or the postal service.

So far as we know, none of the festival proceeds will be squandered on a four-minute phallus-rocket ego trip to nowhere, but maybe assumptions are dangerous. You can never be sure about an artist’s next move.
