A fire in a trailer at the Martha’s Vineyard Refuse District transfer station saw a quick response from Edgartown firefighters Sunday morning.
The call went out at 7:26 a.m. after a refuse district employee saw smoke coming out of the trailer, which contained construction debris, fire chief Alex Schaeffer told the Gazette by phone later Sunday. The debris was on fire, and once on scene firefighters emptied it from the trailer and doused it with water, Chief Schaeffer said.
Caroll’s Trucking and refuse district staff assisted in removing the debris from the trailer, he said.
No one was injured, there was no damage to the trailer and firefighters left the scene at 9:39 a.m., Chief Schaeffer said.
He applauded the collaborative effort.
“It was just good teamwork between MVRD, EFD and Caroll’s Trucking,” the chief said. “It’s nice working alongside people that are able to help us be effective.”
