A visit to The Cliffs in Aquinnah is always a good idea, but now it’s even better because there is Aquila to add to the variety of shops to explore. Aquila is named for the constellation that can be seen above the Cliffs only during July and August, it translates to the eagle, which is why the logo of the shop features an eagle. Aquila On The Cliffs – Martha’s Vineyard features a collection of curated handmade items and the most delicious coffee.
Owner Del Araujo, born and raised as part of the Wampanoag Tribe, was beyond excited when the opportunity to open a shop at the Cliffs became a reality. Owning a shop has been a dream of his for years. If you know Del, you can definitely see him behind the counter of his own business. He has the biggest smile and is so enthusiastic about this new endeavor and talking with customers.
Aquila On The Cliffs – Artists
At Aquila, you will find a number of local artists, including JK Designs, Stefanie Wolf, Martha’s Vineyard Native and more. He also has a number of his family members crafts there as well – all in the family! His mom and his fiancé will be working at the shop too! The vibe in the shop is casual and inviting. You feel welcomed to browse and take the time to appreciate the work of the artists and what Del has at Aquila.
In addition to great finds and even some snacks to enjoy while walking around, Del is serving up some of the best coffee on MV! You can get iced or hot Martha’s Vineyard Coffee Company coffee. This small batch coffee, roasted on the Island, is so delicious. You can also purchase the coffee beans so you can enjoy the coffee at home. An interesting fact, Del went to school with Martha’s Vineyard Coffee Company founder, Leif Iverson. Not only does Del like the Leif’s coffee but he appreciates the way the beans are responsibly sourced. For more about Martha’s Vineyard Coffee Company, click here.
You will also find a small area outside the shop with seating to enjoy your coffee or snack and of course the incredible view. During the Summer, the plan is to have local artist pop-ups in this space.
For the now Aquila is open Thursday thru Sunday, in June, Wednesday thru Sunday, July and August – 7 days a week! Stop by and say hi! Also, check out the Gay Head Store, opening soon, and of course all the other awesome shops at The Cliffs. Don’t forget to walk over to the Gay Head Lighthouse too!
