The island of Martha’s Vineyard offers a lot to see and do year round, but if you just have a day or two, here are some highlights you will not want to miss (or plan to include on your next visit!)

Martha’s Vineyard Things To Do

1. Spend some time at the beach – Martha’s Vineyard is known for it’s beautiful beaches. Whether you are catching some rays and people watching in summer, or enjoying the tranquility and beauty of a beach with no one else on it in the winter, there is much to appreciate. There is a public beach near every ferry dock, so don’t miss the opportunity to slow down and enjoy “Martha’s nature”.

2. Take a ride on the Flying Horse Carousel – This historic landmark is touted as the longest continually running carousel in the world (opened in ). Kids and adults alike will enjoy trying to catch a brass ring and win a free ride! But be warned… you may not escape without spending some time with the kids in the arcade or over a cotton candy.

3. Shopping – every town has an abundance of unique shops, boutiques, and art galleries in their downtown areas. Take a stroll and discover a unique souvenir to remember your visit while you are there.

4. Explore -Branch out by bus, bike, or car – In each of our down island harbor towns, you will find transportation options. The island is just under 100 square miles, with a variety of landscapes and 6 unique towns to explore, with diverse landscapes along the way. The bus system is clean, safe and easy to use and the island has hundreds of miles of bike paths.

5. Walk through The Campground in Oak Bluffs and and enjoy viewing the whimsical and unique Gingerbread Cottages. The amazing Martha’s Vineyard Camp Meeting Association has been listed on the  National Register for Historic Places since 1978, and is a not to be missed picture taking opportunity!

6. Visit the clay cliffs of Aquinnah – Another National Historic Landmark, the picturesque red clay cliffs are well worth the trip to Aquinnah. Formed by glaciers more than 100 million years ago, and rising 150 ft. above the ocean, the cliffs are now on protected land owned by the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah).

7. Visit the quaint fishing village of Menemsha –  This is another picture opportunity calling! The village doesn’t just offer fresh seafood (and lots of it!).  There are a number of boutiques in the village and a public beach that offers one of the best views of a sunset on the island.

8. Check out an Artisans Festival, or a Farmer’s Market  – During the summer season there are many recurring artisan festivals, flea markets, and farmer’s markets with a large variety of creative and locally made goods. Be sure to check our events calendar for a list of happenings during your visit.

9. Go for a walk – Martha’s Vineyard has dozens of walking trails all over the island.

10. Take a kayak tour, paddle board, or boating adventure.  After all, Martha’s Vineyard is an island… there is water to be enjoyed, and lots of ways to enjoy it!
