Summer may be on the horizon but registration season for summer camps on the Island has begun.
On Jan. 12, the FARM Institute began registration for camps to be held at its historic Katama Farm location. Campers aged four through seventeen experience the farm and learn independent thinking through care for farm animals, connecting to the land, and using their imaginations. Full and half-day sessions are organized by age group and run from June 26 through August 25. Wee Farmer and Farmer for a Day activities are also available. Registration for Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary’s Fern & Feather Nature Camp rolls out starting Jan. 17. Campers aged five through fourteen learn about nature through trail explorations, outdoor games, hands-on nature activities, wildlife observations, hikes, stories, crafts, and camp songs. Sessions begin June 26 and run through August 11. Registration will be open to Vineyard residents on Tuesday, Jan. 17 and to the public on Tuesday, Jan. 24. Featherstone Center for the Arts in Oak Bluffs offers weeklong, hands-on art instruction camps for children ages six through teens. Sessions in drawing, painting, mixed media and filmmaking will run June 20 through August 11. Registration goes live at 5 p.m. on Feb. 1 at featherstoneart.org.
Circuit Arts and Island Theatre Workshop are collaborating on the Martha’s Vineyard Children’s Theater Camp. The camp has been an Island institution for 55 years, It is available to children ages 6–14 and sessions are offered at the Martha’s Vineyard Public Charter School in West Tisbury from July 10 through August 18. Registration opens in February, but pre-registration to save a spot is open now at circuitarts.org/camp.
Weeklong sessions at Sassafrass Earth Education in Aquinnah will have themes including Get to Know the Land, Fire Week, Harvest Week and Craft and Creativity. Sessions are available in July and August for ages six and up. Registration begins in February; more information can be found at sassafrasmvy.org.
