Precautions in place for those who go to polls in person.
Voters have several options for casting their ballots in the Sept. 1 primary election. Mail-in and absentee ballots may be requested from town clerk’s offices and returned through the mail or dropped off at town halls. Most town halls have drop boxes for ballots placed at their door.
In-person voting will be held on the day of the election.
Early in-person voting will begin Saturday and run through Aug. 28.
Early voting in person follows a similar procedure as a traditional election day, except voters from all precincts in a town cast their ballots at one designated polling place. After filling out the ballot, the voter will enclose it in an envelope, and it will be counted Sept. 1.
Town officials have several safety measures in place to guard against the coronavirus. Voters should wear face coverings, practice social distancing, and follow directions specific to their town halls.
Here are more details on early in-person voting:
Barnstable
When: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Aug. 28
Where: Adult Community Center (former senior center), 825 Falmouth Road, Hyannis
Procedures: Six voters will be allowed in at a time. Police will monitor inside and outside. Masks are required unless a voter has a medical reason not to wear one.
Bourne
When: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Aug. 28
Where: Bourne Veterans Memorial Community Building, 239 Main St., Buzzards Bay
Brewster
When: noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Aug. 28
Where: Town Hall, 2198 Main St., lower-level meeting room.
Procedures: Marked entry and exit, social distancing, limit on number voting at a time. Masks will be provided to voters who need one, equipment will be sanitized between voters, hand sanitizer will be available. Voters may bring their own black ink or felt-tip pen or a pencil. Town voting pens that are sanitized after each use will be available. Voters also may use town-provided single-use pencils.
Chatham
When: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Aug. 28
Where: Chatham Community Center, 702 Main St.
Dennis
When: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Aug. 28
Where: lower meeting room at Town Hall.
Procedures: Only one voter will be allowed in at a time, unless voters are from the same household.
Eastham
When: 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Aug. 28
Where: Town Hall
Procedures: Voters should bring a pen with black or blue ink, or a pen will be supplied at the door. Those who do not want to use a voting booth should bring a clipboard or book to mark the ballot on. An ID on which the name and address match how a voter is registered is recommended as a precaution. Voters are asked to keep their ballot dry and free from hand sanitizer.
Falmouth
When: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Aug. 28
Where: former senior center, 300 Dillingham Ave.
Procedures: The number of voters allowed inside at one time will be limited. The town will supply masks for those who have none. Plexiglass barriers will be placed on tables to separate poll workers and voters, and voting booths will be at least 6 feet apart.
Harwich
When: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Aug. 28
Where: Town Hall, 732 Main St.
Mashpee
When: noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Aug. 28.
Where: Town Hall, 16 Great Neck Road North. Town Hall also will be open from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday for voter registration for the primary.
Procedures: Masks and social distancing are required inside Town Hall. Staff will be provided face shields.
Orleans
When: noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Aug. 28
Where: Town Hall, 19 School Road
Procedures: Only two voters will be allowed inside at a time. Access to the building is restricted to the voting area. Town Hall remains closed to the public.
Provincetown
When: 9 a.m. to noon Saturday and Sunday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Aug. 27, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 28
Where: Town Hall auditorium, 260 Commercial St.
Procedures: Social distancing and masks required. Hand sanitizer will be available.
Sandwich
When: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Aug. 28
Where: Henry T. Wing School, 33 Water St.
Truro
When: 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday, 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Aug. 28
Where: Town Hall, 24 Town Hall Road
Wellfleet
When: 10 a.m. to noon Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Monday through Aug. 28
Where: town clerk’s office, 300 Main St., Room 101
Procedures: The number of voters allowed in at a time will be limited. Voters should use the doors closest to Main Street and the parking lot to enter. They should use their own black ink pen or Paper Mate Flair if they do not want to use the pens in the voting booth. Ballots should be kept dry and free of hand sanitizer.
Yarmouth
When: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Aug. 28
Where: lower level of Town Hall
Procedures: Limit set at three voters at a time. Yarmouth voters will receive two ballots for the primary. In addition to the state ballot, the town will provide a local ballot for a special election to fill the balance of a three-year-term on the Board of Selectmen. Candidates are Joe Glynn, Joseph Goldstein and Daniel Edward Horgan.
