In May of 1994, a group of dedicated Vineyarders embarked on a mission to New Hampshire to dismantle a historic 1905 dairy barn and bring it back to Martha’s Vineyard. Hundreds of Islanders worked together to rebuild the barn that became the beloved West Tisbury Agricultural Hall we know today. Each year, the Martha’s Vineyard Agricultural Society hosts this remarkable community barn-raising in celebration with dancing at the annual Barn Raisers Ball, a cherished event featuring famed island band Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish.
This year’s Barn Raisers Ball takes place on Saturday, November 2nd, from 7 PM to 10 PM. The evening is a BYOB affair and showcases a potluck dessert table, where neighbors and friends come together to share sweet treats. For the second year in a row, the festivities will also include Barn Raisers Day, earlier in the day on Saturday.
