HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS – [HN PHOTO NOTES] – A teenage boy was severely injured after being struck by a pickup truck this afternoon. At around 4:46 p.m., Barnstable Police patrol officers and Hyannis FD EMTs rushed to Bearses Way where they found the young bicyclist down on the pavement at the entrance to the Tractor Supply store. The teenager (approximately 14-years-old) was conscious and alert, suffering from a leg fracture after reportedly going over the handlebars of his bicycle during the crash, according to police sources. He was frightened and in obvious pain. EMTs immediately went to work reassuring the young teen while stabilizing his broken leg. The teen was carefully placed onto a stretcher and immediately transported to Cape Cod Hospital in a Hyannis FD ambulance… where he is currently undergoing surgery, according to sources.
The adult male driver of the pickup truck remained on scene and appeared to be fully cooperative with investigating police officers. The pickup truck driver was eventually free to leave after speaking with officers. A member of the sheriff’s crime scene unit responded to photograph the scene. The Barnstable Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash.
Right away, a Barnstable policeman went to a nearby residence to notify the boy’s mother, giving her a courtesy ride to the CCH emergency room, according to sources.
