Little House Cafe is one of those places that feels like home when you go. It has an incredibly loyal year-round clientele, and they know your name, like Cheers. The restaurant has recently changed owners. Brook Katzen took ownership in October. I imagine the potential for change is a little unnerving regarding this neighborhood staple, but Little House Cafe is still the Little House you know and love. This is a story that makes for a delicious addition to our We Love MV series — WE LOVE MV: A New Dining Changes At Little House Cafe In Vineyard Haven
WE LOVE MV: New Dining Changes At Little House Cafe – New Chapter With New Owner
One of the reasons that Brook became interested in buying Little House Cafe was because he was a customer who loved it there. The service and the food was always the best and it kept him coming back.
While Brook does not have a culinary background, he has a strong business background. To him, the food and the service are great at Little House. So the staff is the same and the menu is being brought back to the same as well. He is focusing on other aspects of the business, and letting Little House be the special restaurant that keeps people coming back again and again.
The menu was significantly downsized over the summer, but things are coming back to the menu. The staff even has a going list of customer requests that are then made a priority. The kitchen team is more like a family, working closely together to keep the menu as it was — consistent and delicious.
The counter team is still focused on that personal Little House Touch. Much of the staff has even stayed the same including Camelia, who after five years of working at Little House, has not only stayed on, but is excited to see some of the changes. The changes are not to the food but to the business side of the restaurant. For her, Little House works together as a family and Brook is part of that family, but now with new energy.
WE LOVE MV: New Dining Changes At Little House Cafe – Breakfast Is Back
Little House Cafe serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, year-round. This is so great for the Island. To know you can go there for almost every meal. I happened to go there for breakfast, which was just brought back.
I like going to Little House for breakfast, especially on a gorgeous, warm, sunny Fall day. Though the inside is yet to open, there is outdoor seating in their front yard. It really is lovely to sit there, sunkissed and working on securing a full belly with classics like the Breakfast BLT, Grilled multi-grain bread, bacon, lettuce, tomato, mayo, fried egg. This is such a delicious, hearty way to begin your day.
I also need to mention — because they are highly coveted — scones and muffins are back. In addition to their famous scones and muffins, many other breakfast favorites are back as well. Oh and don’t forget about tea, coffee, and specialty drinks that are available throughout the day.
WE LOVE MV: New Dining Changes At Little House Cafe – Lunch & Dinner
More of a lunch person? You are in luck. So many more items are back on that menu as well, like their house-made soups and the popular Roasted Turkey Sandwich (Cabot cheddar, cranberry relish, pickled red onions, arugula, and mayo on multigrain toast, with a bag of Cape Cod potato chips).
There are so many good things on the lunch and dinner menus! It’s hard to choose what to order, how great is it to have Little House as an option for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, click here to see the menu. If ordering dinner, Little House also has beverage options.
Speaking of dinner, Little House something special for Up-Island residents. If you order your food before 5:30 PM, Monday through Saturday, you can have it delivered for pick up at Alley’s General Store in West Tisbury!
WE LOVE MV: New Dining Changes At Little House Cafe Behind The Scenes
So, the food is remaining the same (I bet some great specials appear though) and the staff is the same, then what’s new? Well, for Brook, it’s some of the business components.
There’s an updated logo, a new focus on social media, a new website, and there will be an added retail component. Look for signature Little House dressings, sauces, and more online and at the restaurant. Their dining room has been refreshed, and it is definitely the Little House you know and love but with something a little extra.
Since moving to the Island from D.C. in March, Brook has been working on a career as an Island business owner. He had purchased The Cove Mini Golf across the street earlier in the year. You may have noticed the new marketing and other touches at The Cove. Now he has Little House Cafe as well, and he is very excited to be a part of this special restaurant in this Vineyard Haven neighborhood.
The Vineyard has held a special place in Brook’s life since he was a child. Moving here full time is like a dream come true. With his efforts, he hopes to not only make people happy with his businesses but also work on the affordable housing problem the Island faces.
