A total of 19 student artists received acclaim this week, winning a combined 24 awards for their creative submissions to the 2023 Scholastic Art Awards competition. Works in the categories of ceramics, visual art, digital art and the newly created expanded projects category all earned prizes
In addition, four students at the regional high school have won the top spot, each achieving the Golden Key Award. Those four winners — Isabel Carreno-Vogt, Jonathan DeOliveira, Walter Prescott and Samantha Warren — will each go on to the national competition in New York City, along with having an exhibit of their work hosted in Breed Memorial Hall at Tufts University from March 18 to 25.
The awards date back to 1923, explained regional high school art department chair Chris Baer in an email to the Gazette, and “have a noteworthy roster of past recipients including Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, Richard Avedon, Robert Redford and Kay WalkingStick.”
